This is a story told by one of Linda's clients.
This person was afflicted by very low self-esteem.
Among other signs, the shoes she wore were in ratty shape-- misshapen, with holes and fraying.
When Linda saw those shoes, she said, "We're going shopping."
They went off, purchaesd some nice-looking well-fitting shoes.
As they left, the client put the old shoes into the box, ready to take them home.
Linda stopped, gently took the box from her,... and proceeded to a trash barrel.
I think the lesson was, you don't need to feel unworthy of decent shoes.
Leave the self-deprecation behind.
Move on. In new shoes.
